A Life for A Life and Other Addresses were delivered at the Students' Conference in Northfield, 1893. It sometimes happens that a man, in giving to the world the truths that have most influenced his life, unconsciously writes the truest kind of a character sketch. This was so in the case of Henry Drummond, and no words of mine can better describe his life or character than those in which he has presented to us.
Murray's groundbreaking manual led to renewed interest in his life and works both in the United States and worldwide. His instructions, while simple in tone, are shot through with devotion and moving encouragement to trust in, and surrender to, the divine. As well as spiritual guidance, this book effectively summarizes Murray's attitude to faith and spiritual growth.

Taking issue with Hegel's sense that God, as Logos, is somehow central to all that is, Feuerbach explores his own notion that Christianity, as religion, grew quite naturally from ordinary human observation. Only upon deeper, systematic reflection did people postulate a divine source--God. Religious teaching which loses sight of its own essential rootedness in human experience runs the risk becoming overly abstract, disconnected even, from realities which shape humanity and which impart meaning and dignity to life. Fuerbach illustrates this not only on the example of the doctrine of God, but also with respect to creation, prayer, miracles,
The purpose of the Apology is to prove to the emperors, renowned as upright and philosophical men, the injustice of the persecution of the Christians, who are the representatives of true philosophy … Christians are the true worshipers of God, the Creator of all things; they offer him the only sacrifices worthy of him, those of prayer and thanksgiving, and are taught by his Son, to whom they assign a place next in honor to him. This teaching leads them to perfect morality, as shown in their teacher's words and their own lives, and founded on their belief in the resurrection.
Flowers from the Garden of Saint Francis for Every Day of the Year contains 365 admonitions and inspirations from this great Saint and other notable Franciscans. Often written for the aid of the monks and nuns under his authority and care, they still, however, hold much wisdom easily applicable and directed towards priests, religious, and the lay person of this day. As the compiler of this work so aptly states, St. Francis "was inspired by God, six hundred years ago, to rekindle in His Church the spirit of humility, simplicity, poverty, detachment from the world, and ardent love of our crucified

This book is written to Christians who profess to believe the Bible as God's revelation, but whose "lives are filled with discomfort and unrest." Smith aims to show that the Bible's claim that God is the "the God of all comfort" is not an over-advertisement or misunderstanding, but that it is possible to avail ourselves of the doubts and heavy anxieties that plague so many Christians.

The Story of St. Francis of Assisi, a biography of one of the most loved Saints of all time, was originally written for children 7-10 years old, but is an book that will be enjoyed by all ages. Francis Bernardone, became a knight of Jesus Christ, vowed devotion to Lady Poverty and proved himself the "little brother" to all men, and even to the birds and beasts, his beloved friends. The son of a wealthy merchant, Saint Francis of Assisi kept company in his youth with a roving band of young nobles who were bent on having a good time, thinking nothing of the comfort or feelings of other people. When sickness puts an end to his soldierly ambitions, he turns his back on earth

James Allen’s most famous work, As A Man Thinketh, has gained almost cult status among those studying spiritual mysticism. He wrote all of his works without copyright for the benefit of man, and this work, The Heavenly Life, one of his more obscure writings, contains the wisdom of the meaning of spiritual oneness with God.

John Donne (1572 – March 31, 1631) was a Jacobean poet and preacher, representative of the metaphysical poets of the period. His works, notable for their realistic and sensual style, include sonnets, love poetry, religious poems, Latin translations, epigrams, elegies, songs, satires and sermons. His poetry is noted for its vibrancy of language and immediacy of metaphor, compared with that of his contemporaries.
Towards the end of his life Donne wrote works that challenged death, and the fear that it inspired in many men, on the grounds of his belief that those who die are sent to Heaven to live eternally.
Torrey was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, on 28 January 1856. He graduated from Yale University in 1875 and Yale Divinity School in 1878. Following graduation, Torrey became a Congregational minister in Garrettsville, Ohio, in 1878. After further studies in theology at Leipzig University and Erlangen University in 1882–1883, Torrey joined Dwight L. Moody in his evangelistic work in Chicago in 1889, and became superintendent of the Bible Institute of the Chicago Evangelization Society (now Moody Bible Institute). Five years later, he became pastor of the Chicago Avenue Church (now the Moody Church) in 1894.
A book on the all importance of humility, how Jesus was humble, and how we also can become humble. Murray wrote "Without humility, there can be no true abiding in God's presence or experience of His favor and the power of His spirit. Without it there can be no abiding faith or love or joy or strength." Summary by ekaitz
This Book has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible.
The title of the book comes from Luke 17:21. It is a non-fiction work of the famous Russian author Leo Tolstoy. He wrote it after many years of reflexion on Christianity and Jesus. Many subjects are present such as wars, non-violence, misunderstanding by believers of the faith, etc.
"The Prayers of St Paul" contains nine expository lectures by William H. Griffith Thomas. One of the most valuable elements in the Epistles of St Paul is their revelation of the writer's spiritual life. While they are necessarily doctrinal and theological, dealing with the fundamental realities of the Christian religion, they are also intensely personal, and express very much of the Apostle's own experience. They depict in a marked degree the sources and characteristics of the spiritual life.
Here is a guide for all Christians aspiring to union with God, which, according to Brother Lawrence, is the ultimate goal of every soul. The new Image edition of The Practice of the Presence of God is a reissue of the 1977 translation that was the first to appear in decades. It features an in-depth Introduction by John J. Delaney that examines what is known about Lawrence's life, how the book came to be, and its ongoing relevance throughout the ages.

As the heart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God." This thirst for an intimate relationship with God, claims A.W. Tozer, is not for a select few, but should be the experience of every follower of Christ. But, he asserts, it is all too rare when believers have become conditioned by tradition to accept standards of mediocrity, and the church struggles with formality and worldliness. Using examples from Scripture and from the lives of saints who lived with this thirst for God, Tozer sheds light on the path to a closer walk with God.
Revelations of Divine Love is a classic work of medieval Christian mysticism. Dame Julian of Norwich received these visions in 1373, at the age of 30. It appears from her writings that she was born in 1343 and died after 1416. The visions appeared to her over two nights when she was gravely ill. After her miraculous recovery, she described and reflected upon the 16 visions. Her theology is one of love and mercy, which has inspired and comforted many believers down the ages. Revelations of Divine Love is celebrated as the earliest extant book in English written by a woman.

Stories From God’s Holy Book is a charming collection of Bible history stories for young children. The narrations are done in storybook style, with cousins Bobby and Patricia listening to the stories read to them by their beloved Aunt Jo. The children pipe in frequently with their child-like comments, lending to the appealing manner of the book.

The Lord's Table, is not meant to replace scripture, but rather to strengthen believers' appreciation of God's word. Murray's meditations provide a thoughtful guide for believers who desire to develop a deeper understanding of the Lord's Holy Supper. The devotional covers the week before, during, and after the Supper, and each entry is labeled with the day of the week so that readers can manage devotions with ease. Murray first explains how believers can prepare to receive God's blessing during the weeks before the Supper.

Great men of God in Scripture, such as Paul, Ezra, Moses and Daniel, are the focus as E.M. Bounds demonstrates powerful lessons on the need for effective prayer. God's desire is for men to be on their knees in full subjection to Him. No stranger to the life lived in prayer, E.M. Bounds was devoted to praying 3 hours a day beginning at 4 a.m., and his books are a wonderful example of the power of a praying man.

In this book, Tolstoy seeks to condense the four Gospels of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, into one, by looking along the lines of the teachings of Jesus Christ found in each book. In doing so, he discovers that the Lord's Prayer is the best summation of all that Christ taught in the Gospels.

The New Life aids Christians in their examination of the scripture and offers valuable information to believers who want to overcome sin and live the Christian life. While Murray's book is specifically designed for young converts, the text is useful to all Christians. Murray's chapters cover a variety of different topics that Christians, particularly those new to the faith, will find remarkably helpful. Murray discusses how Christians should approach the tasks of missionary work, prayer, confession, and baptism

One of the most popular writers in the fields of inspiration and spirituality at the turn of the 20th century, James Allen set as his life's goal the revelation of universal principles-both spiritual and practical-that empower the individual. With an emphasis on personal responsibility and finding inner power in selflessness and discipline, he here covers, in a book first published in 1907, such topics as the Power of Meditation, Self and Truth, Selfless Love, and the Realization of Perfect Peace. This is truly self-help for the inner self, from a man who believed that we alone can master our own destinies.

Andrew Murray wrote in the introduction to this daily devotional book of one month’s readings, of the need that many Christians feel of being helped to a deeper and clearer insight into all that Christ could be to them. In this volume he shows both the need and the benefit of waiting upon God, and of giving God time and place to show us what He can do and what He will do. The author encourages us to enlarge our hearts and not limit God; to understand that God can do new things, unheard of things, and hidden things. “When Thou camest down, Thou didst terrible things we looked not for; the mountains flowed down at Thy presence.”
